General Information
1. Why are there 3 different FlashBender models?
The Large Positionable Reflector offers a larger and softer light than either of the two smaller FlashBenders.  Due to its size, and the use of 3 positionable rods in its design, the Large Reflector is more versatile than the other FlashBender models.  But its size also adds to its weight (6 oz), which requires that it be used with the flash positioned vertically (straight up).

The Small Positionable Reflector is a versatile reflector ideal for use on-camera.  Weighing just 3.5 ounces, the Small Reflector can easily be rolled into a snoot (tube) to focus the light from your flash, or opened up to reflect and soften the light from your flash.

The Bounce Card/Flag is the smallest of the three FlashBenders and includes a separate black fabric cover.  The Bounce Card can be used either as a small reflector, or as a flag to block unwanted light from a subject or foreground.

2. Do I need to purchase separate straps or attach double-stick velcro to my flash units to use FlashBenders?
No. One of the great things about the Rogue FlashBenders is that the attachment strap is integrated into the reflector.  No more gluing or sticking double-sided velcro to your flash units!  When attached, the Rogue FlashBender securely grips your flash.

3. Are FlashBenders for use "on" or "off" camera?
FlashBenders can be used both "on" or "off" your camera, depending on your needs.  That being said, because of their respective size and weight characteristics, we find the Small Reflector ideal for use "on" camera, and the Large Reflector ideal for use "off" camera.  The Bounce Card/Flag is ideally suited for use as a small on camera white card, or as a flag for background lighting.

4. On a Large FlashBender, how should I position the flash?
When used as a reflector, the Large Reflector is designed to be used on a flash head that is positioned vertically (straight up).

5. How do FlashBenders bend and hold their position?
Each Flashbender reflector is deisnged with positionable, lightweight, rust-resistant, plated coil steel rods. The Large Reflector includes 3 rods, the Small Reflector includes 2 rods and the Bounce Card/Flag includes 1 rod.

6. Will the flexible rods in the FlashBender wear out quickly?
We have done significant testing on the rods and you will find that your FlashBender(s) will bend and flex for years to come.  In addition, all ExpoImaging products come with a limited warranty to be free of defects in workmanship and materials for a period one (1) year from the date of original retail purchase. If the product proves defective within the warranty period it will replaced. Click here to see the details.

7. Will FlashBenders change the color temperature of reflected light?
As the makers of the ExpoDisc we know color. We relied on our extensive knowledge of white balance tools to select the best materials for the FlashBenders. The white reflective surface of each of the three FlashBender models has been selected for its neutrality (we even tested it on our spectrophotometer), and it will not change the color temperature of your flash.

8. How reflective is the white material on the front of a FlashBender?
Based on our spectrophotometer tests, each FlashBender measures approximately 87% reflectivity.

9. How does the size of a reflector affect the light produced?
Generally, larger light sources produce softer light.  The larger the FlashBender, the larger the potential light source and therefore the softer the light will be.

10. What is a snoot and how do I form a snoot with the Large and Small FlashBender reflectors?
Traditionally, a snoot is a light modifier shaped like a tube.  The purpose of this shape is to create a spot of light that can be easily controlled by the photographer.  The spotlight-like effects created by a snoot can be used for dramatic effects in portraits by highlighting specific areas of a photograph, such as the face, hair, background, or other important compositional subject in the image.

11. My Bounce Card/Flag came with a black fabric attachment? What is it for?
The Bendable Bounce Card/Flag includes a black fabric attachment can be used to reduce the light reflected off the surface of the bounce card/flag.

12. Do FlashBenders pack flat? Can I pack them folded over?
FlashBenders can be folded over and packed flat.  The FlashBenders should be packed so that the rods stay flat.  Note, do not try to fold the FlashBenders so that the metal rods fold back on themselves.  This may permanently kink the rods in a way that will prevent them from functioning properly.

13. The white reflective material on my FlashBender is dirty. Can I clean it? How do I care for my FlashBenders?
Your FlashBender should require minimal upkeep, however, if the reflective surface does get dirty, you can wipe it with a damp cloth.

14. How much do FlashBenders weigh?
Each FlashBender, including the Large Reflector, is light enough to carry in your pocket and hardly notice its presence. The Large Positionable Reflector weighs in at approximately 6oz (163g), the Small Positionable Reflector weighs in at approximately 3oz (92g) and the Bendable Bounce Card/Flag weighs in at approximately 2oz (68g).

15. What is the actual size of the reflective surface of each FlashBender?
The reflective (white) surface of each FlashBender is as follows:

Large Positionable Reflector measures approximately  9"W x 8.75"H.
Small Positionable Reflector measures approximately 9"W x 4.63"H.
Bendable Bounce Card/Flag measures approximately 4.25"W x 6.75"H.

Flash Compatibility
1. What flashes are the Rogue FlashBenders designed to fit?
Rogue FlashBenders were designed with an integrated elastic tension strap sized to fit nearly all standard shoe mount flash brands, including models from: Canon, Konica, Metz, Minolta, Nikon, Nissin, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, Quantum, Sigma, Sony and Vivitar. The elastic tension strap can accomodate flashes as small as 7.75" in circumference to as large as 11".

Currently the only flashes that we have tested and found the FlashBenders to not fit are the Vivitar 285, Nikon SB400, and the Canon 270EX.  The Vivitar 285 is a bit too big, and the other two flashes are just too small for the FlashBenders to fit securely around.

There is also a possibility that the FlashBenders will not fit your flash if you utilize a large handle or grip flash if it's larger than 11" in circumference.
2. Will the Rogue FlashBenders fit a large handle, or grip flash?
Maybe. The maximum circumference Rogue FlashBenders are designed to fit is approximately 11 inches. FlashBenders will not fit around those flash heads with a diameter larger than 11 inches.
3. Will Rogue FlashBenders fit very small shoe mount flashes?
FlashBenders are designed to fit a minimum circumference of 7.75". If the circumference of your flash is smaller than the Flashbender it is unlikely to fit the flash securely.
4. Why does my FlashBender feel a little loose on the flash?
If your FlashBender feels loose once it has been attached to the flash head, then you should try reattaching it by tightening the elastic band. The FlashBender should not fit loosely.
